Field Notes by Eric Bettens
We started the day with our first Zodiac cruise—departing at 6:45 am, just before breakfast. The early light offered clear visibility, and we watched as the mist gradually descended, adding a sense of quiet drama to the scene.

Our destination was a stunning cliff, remarkable not only for its geology but also for the sheer number of birds—thousands filled the air, the cliff face, and the surrounding sea. The wind picked up just enough to give us a few waves and a thrill or two on the Zodiac.

Back on board, we enjoyed a well-earned breakfast. A landing at Torellneset was planned for the afternoon, but unfortunately had to be cancelled due to heavy fog.

We’re now setting course for Brasvellbreen Glacier in Nordaustlandet for a scenic ship cruise—a beautiful way to continue the day despite the shift in plans.
