Ian Mun
Ian Mun is a Singapore-based wildlife and conservation filmmaker, photographer, and storyteller whose work brings to life the complex and vital connections between humanity and nature – whether on land or beneath the waves. In 2024, he directed and filmed “SOULS – Stories of Our Underwater Legends,” a short film that explores the journeys of ocean pioneers like Sylvia Earle, David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes, Michael Aw, Brian Greene, and Richard Pyle. In this cinematic tribute to their lifelong devotion to the oceans, Ian illuminates the passion, the perseverance, and the urgency with which these legends fight for the preservation of marine life. As a filmmaker with a deep connection to the land and sea, Ian is also championing the effort to designate Malapascua Island in the Philippines as a Mission Blue Hope Spot—an initiative to safeguard the island’s remarkable marine biodiversity, including the iconic thresher sharks that call its waters home.

Ian’s unique approach allows him to tell impactful stories about environmental and conservation issues. Whether it’s the struggles of farmers in urbanizing Singapore or the ecological magic of an archipelago, Ian’s work paints a holistic picture of how humanity’s impact reaches from the soil to the seabed. Through The Roving Studio, a production company Ian founded in 2021, he curates stories that invites audiences to see the world not just as a collection of landscapes but as interconnected habitats where human and environmental stories converge.
