Marie Micol Bennett
Marie Bennett is a Chicago-based flutist, explorer, and climate advocate whose work merges performance with environmental storytelling. She appears with orchestras and chamber ensembles across the Midwestern United States, and is a founding member of the MKD Trio, Kaleidoscope Trio, and Vox Box Quartet.

Her current focus is Extinction Lullabies—a musical project honoring vanishing species, coral reefs, glaciers, and endangered languages. Marie performs across the full flute family, from piccolo to contrabass, and is especially known for her work with low flutes. Her contrabass flute—affectionately known as Tinkerbell—features in performances exploring deep sonic landscapes and climate themes. She also performs on a large personal collection of traditional flutes from around the world. Marie is an active commissioner of new music, frequently collaborating with composers on works that engage ecological and cultural themes.

An avid scuba diver, Marie draws on archival sound and lived experience in the natural world. She recently retired from a 30-year teaching career to dedicate herself fully to artistic and ecological work.
