Nur Tucker
Nur Tucker is an award-winning underwater photographer and dedicated ocean advocate whose journey into marine conservation began after a successful career in investment banking in London. Trained as an economist, she spent over two decades navigating the financial world before following her true calling—protecting and celebrating the ocean. Since retiring from the City, she has poured her energy and passion into the underwater realm, where her camera has become both a storytelling tool and a catalyst for change. She is currently the Chairman of British Society of Underwater Photographers and also the Chairman of the Sub Aqua Group of the RAC in London.

In the past ten years, Nur’s photographic work has received numerous international accolades, praised for its artistic merit, emotional depth, and environmental impact including being named the “Master Photographer of the Competition” by Ocean Geographic’s Pictures of the Year Competition in 2021. Her images transport viewers into silent, submerged worlds—glimpses of coral gardens, underwater caves, and delicate marine ecosystems, from giganic whales to teeny creatures—offering both a sense of wonder and a wake-up call. She strives to bring global awareness to the beauty and fragility of our oceans, believing strongly in the power of visual storytelling to inspire conservation.

A recurring theme in her work is the impact of plastic waste on marine habitats. She uses her images not only as artistic expression but as a visual narrative to spark awareness and drive conversations around ocean pollution. Her powerful imagery bridges art and science, often focusing on the intersection of natural beauty and human responsibility.
Beyond the lens, Nur is an active speaker and educator. She regularly gives talks at schools, photography societies, community groups, and international forums, raising awareness about ocean conservation, the crisis of plastic pollution, and what individuals can do to make a difference. Her presentations blend photography, science, and personal narrative, making complex issues accessible and emotionally resonant—especially for younger audiences.

Joining this BIG ACE research expedition is a natural extension of her mission. The polar regions are some of the most vulnerable on Earth, and Nur hopes to document the profound changes occurring here due to climate change and pollution. Her aim is to bear witness, capture moments that matter, and continue using her imagery to spark conversations and inspire action.

Whether exploring tropical reefs or diving beneath Arctic ice, Nur remains committed to one goal: using her voice, her vision, and her photographs to protect the ocean—our planet’s most vital and threatened resource. @nurtuckerphotography
