Tara Christie Moore
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Tara spent her formative years in Perth, Western Australia. Blessed with a mother that loved animals above almost all else and her own passion for the ocean and places unknown, Tara found herself leaving Australia after completing her studies to live and work at sea sailing worldwide.
After nearly 4 years at sea, Tara landed on the coast of Southern California where she has resided since 2013. During her time in California Tara has remained committed to a life of adventure, ocean appreciation, conservation and continued education in Sustainability at UCLA. As an accomplished manager, leader and expert in operations of complex, niche, dynamic and environments, Tara is highly motived to apply her unique skills and experience to combat systemic sustainability and conservation challenges that we face today.
Every interaction we have with nature today is a reminder of what we need to protect and how much work there is to be done. Tara experiences profound joy in sharing the wonders that are the world around us to her community and all stakeholders within her reach in order to be the much-needed driving force behind positive change and impact.
Tara recently returned from a dive expedition in the Sea of Cortez where she was lucky enough to share the ocean with a large group of Baird’s Beaked Whales who are rarely seen cetaceans due to their long dives (some lasting several hours!). However, even the “Aquarium of the World” is not immune to our impacts with rising ocean temperatures in areas and human activity encroaching on one of the most biologically diverse areas on our planet.
“We cannot protect something we do not love, we cannot love what we do not know, and we cannot know what we do not see. Or hear. Or sense.” – Richard Louv
