William Leavitt Sternheim
I received my undergraduate degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, where I did several years of research in the field of biochemistry.

Following this, I received my medical degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse New York, followed by training in Internal medicine, Hematology, and Oncology at the University of Miami.

I joined the medical faculty in the division of Hematology and taught at University of Miami Medical school. I subsequently decided to go into private practice in South Florida in the field of hematology and medical oncology, and had been doing that for the past 38 years.

During that time, I was able to balance my care for my patients with my interest in nature, marine, biology, and photography. I have traveled to the seven continents with emphasis on animal photography, and hiking. I’ve made multiple trips to Africa, the Galapagos, Australia, and most recently Antarctica.

I have been fortunate to visit and belong to major aquariums throughout the world, and at home in South Florida I manage several large saltwater aquariums and grow both coral and saltwater fish.

I have maintained my interest and activity in various diverse organizations ranging from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Galapagos Society and the Planetary Society.

Having witnessed some of the effects of climate change both at home and abroad, I am interested in furthering my education and being able to pass this information along to others. A trip to the Arctic sounds fantastic.

Hopefully I can do my small part to help convey education on climate change through my  photography, and conversation with others.
