Singapore, 15 June 2026 — More than 335 guests filled Hall 1 of Shaw Theatres Lido to capacity on a Monday evening for the world premiere of Voices for the Voiceless and the launch of The Remains of the Arctic — Collector’s Edition, marking one of the most significant ocean and climate storytelling events ever presented by Ocean Geographic.
What began as a film premiere quickly became a powerful moment of reflection, witness, and collective responsibility.
Guests included scientists, doctors, educators, artists, business leaders, climate advocates, members of the Ocean Geographic community, and many of the Climate Avengers who participated in the 2025 BIG ACE (Bears Ice Glaciers Arctic Climate Expedition).
The evening opened with a heartfelt address by explorer, filmmaker, and Ocean Geographic founder Michael AW, who reminded the audience that the film was not fiction, nor merely a documentary, but “a story about truth” — a truth witnessed firsthand by 98 expedition members from more than 20 nations who journeyed to the High Arctic to document the rapid disappearance of one of Earth’s most important ecosystems.
Reflecting on the expedition’s journey to nearly 82 degrees North, Michael spoke of sailing through uncharted waters where glaciers stood only years ago and searching for ancient multi-year sea ice that has largely disappeared.
“We were able to sail there not because of progress or technology, but because of loss.”
The audience then became the first in the world to experience the complete feature documentary.
Guided by the wisdom of legendary oceanographer Dr Sylvia Earle, and told through the eyes of young pianist Hillary O’Sullivan and ninety-eight Climate Avengers, Voices for the Voiceless transforms the silent collapse of the Arctic into a message the world can no longer ignore. The film combines breathtaking cinematography, science, music, and deeply personal stories into what many attendees described as an emotional and profoundly moving experience.
Throughout the screening, audiences witnessed glaciers collapsing in real time, wildlife struggling to adapt to a rapidly warming Arctic, and Hillary’s remarkable performance of the Arctic Symphony on moving sea ice at the top of the world. The film’s central message—that the Arctic is not a distant wilderness but the climate engine of our planet—resonated deeply with those in attendance.
Many audience members remained in the theatre long after the credits rolled for the panel discussion, visibly moved by the film’s final challenge:
“One day, children will ask what we did when there was still ice in the Arctic.”
Alongside the premiere, Ocean Geographic officially launched The Remains of the Arctic — Collector’s Edition, a limited, case-bound publication authored by Michael AW with a foreword by Dr Sylvia Earle.
Produced from more than 12,000 photographs captured during the BIG ACE expedition, the 168-page collector’s volume serves as both a visual archive and a testament to a rapidly changing Arctic. Designed as a legacy publication for future generations, the book preserves what may soon exist only in memory.
The success of the evening reflects growing public concern about the future of the Arctic and the role storytelling can play in driving environmental awareness and action.
“Tonight was never simply about a film or a book,” said Michael AW.
“It was about giving our voices to those who speak in ways we often neglect to hear. The Arctic is warning us. The question is whether we will listen.”
Voices for the Voiceless forms part of the broader BIG ACE legacy initiative, which includes exhibitions, educational outreach, climate advocacy, and a global movement calling for stronger protection of Arctic ecosystems.
As guests departed the theatre, many carried with them a renewed sense of urgency—and perhaps the most important question posed by the film:
What will we leave for the next generation?
